Dataviz has just released RoadSync for Windows Mobile 2003 SE Essentially, RoadSync makes it possible for a Windows 2003 SE handheld to sync with an Exchange 2003 server using the licensed Direct Push technology that is currently available only to Windows Mobile 5.0 (MSFP) handhelds. This is significant because Windows Mobile 5.0 MSFP was the only OS from Microsoft that supports true push mail. Enterprises that wishes to adopt Direct Push on their existing Windows 2003 SE handhelds can now do so without purchasing new hardware. A quick recap on the features available in Direct Push are:
- SSL-encrypted push mail technology supported natively by Microsoft Exchange 2003 (SP2)
- Access to the global address list, or GAL over-the-air
- The ability to trigger a remote wipe of device memory
RoadSync will also obey Exchange-configured instructions such as user policies requiring a device password and locally wiping the device after a specified number of failed login attempts. Additionally, DataViz makes the RoadSync Mass Configuration Tool available to corporations, operators and Exchange hosting companies. Using this tool, server settings can be pre-defined, access points can be locked down and privileges can be granted on a global, group or individual basis. This feature does not require SP2.
