Hi Boon, yes, its exactly as you put it. I've been doing that for my last few laptops. The most recent two, a Sony Vaio TZ still, can still run for at least 6 hrs, while my Vaio Z about 4-5 hrs with Wi-Fi switched off.

I like this article, it will give me more sense of urgency, charging my gadgets every time I get a room to charge it as I was not real good on this part.
Good Job..
Thanks!

Heat that comes out of Laptops doesn't come from the A/C source, but fundamentally, the semiconductor gadgets (PN-junctions) that are used in the making of the Laptop circuitry. As current flows through junctions, heat is generated and it's this that heats up the entire system including the battery.

The tip to let the laptop connected to the ac is a vindication for me...
I have received innumerable "learned' suggestions from my friends not to leave my laptop connected to the ac outlet at all times. I am using a LI ION battery and so I never bothered them seriously... Now 3rd yr into my purchase, my battery is performing better than a guy who used his laptop on batteries at all times, though he bought it last yr...

Good post... thnx!

Great article. But, questions: 1) I see frequent admonitions by "experts" (including many sales people at Best Buy) who say that if the battery will be unused for long periods, like more than a few weeks, it's best to remove it at 50% charge level for storage. Yes? No? 2) If the charge is at 100% at bedtime, should I leave the laptop plugged into A/C all night? 3) Heat is mentioned by all experts as a big destroyer of laptop batteries. But where would heat like the frequently mentioned 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees F.) come from? From the A/C?

FYI, I took my shelved Toshiba Li Ion battery out of the drawer from Aug 2003 and it works pretty well. It had a charge of 41% remaining after about seven years.

Thanks for knowledge. I've seen lots of tips and tricks for Li-ion battery and this article is the simplest and easy to understand; simply put and logical.

Again, thanks!

Gr8 article, it wasvery interresting. Question: I was told by a friend that if u kept an ipod touch warm(like put it under your armpit) for a few mins, it will recharge it slightly, is this true or r they just pullin my leg?
