My StarHub Home Zone femtocell access point is up!

The trial equipment just came in an hour ago – thanks Michael!  It’s essentially just plug-and-play, though the engineers did a few tests to ensure that the mobile handover happens without a glitch.

Anyway, I relocated it on the top of my equipment rack once the StarHub engineers left.  I wrote a primer on TechRepublic about femtocell technology yesterday, which will be published tomorrow – I’ll put a link to it once its live.

In the meantime, you can read more about StarHub’s femtocell offering, which they call “Home Zone” from their FAQ here.  My whitelisted StarHub mobile lines will enjoy unlimited voice calls, video calls, and text messages when connected to this access point.  So if you are thinking of subscribing, do check out their Home Zone product page.

I’ll share my thoughts again after another week or so.

    Hi Paul

Just to let you know that the world is waiting eagerly (well, I am anyway) to hear about your experiences with the StarHub femtocell. My company makes femtocells (although not the StarHub one). A success in Singapore should help the fledgling industry get established worldwide.

    Cheers

    Andy

    Dear Andy,

No worries. I will be posting some feedback about my experience within the next few days. Just to reveal a little more info: I have been using it with my BlackBerry bold and my wife; her Nokia E51. :)

    Regards,
    Paul Mah.

    Hi Paul,

I’m also very interested in your feedback on the service. I’ve subscribed myself and am quite satisfied with how it performs but not with the way StarHub has set it up with their pricing plans and complete lack of pricing disclosures.

Don’t want to hijack your post with my experiences without being invited, but I’d certainly like to hear what you think/thought about the service.

    Toby.
